How we research lived data

We study how data can be understood, felt, and expressed through narrative, affective, and embodied approaches.

Our perspective on lived data has been shaped by years of collaboration with neurodivergent individuals and people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). These partnerships challenged conventional assumptions about how data should be represented, interpreted, and experienced, inspiring our ongoing exploration of narrative, affective, and embodied approaches to data.

Theme 01

Narrative Data

Making data more accessible and expressive through storytelling.

How can storytelling make data more accessible and meaningful?

How can narrative support community empowerment and social justice?

How can stories help people see themselves and their experiences in data?

Theme 02

Affective Data

Supporting affective and reflective engagement with data.

How can emotion support the interpretation and understanding of data?

How can emotions be represented and understood through data?

How can data become a medium for emotional expression and self-reflection?

Theme 03

Embodied Data

Designing immersive and embodied data experiences.

How can people experience data rather than simply view it?

How does embodiment shape the interpretation of data?

How can immersive experiences help people connect data to lived experience?
